Valentine Flowers and their meanings

Valentine day flowers are an expression of feelings embraced by an arrangement unique to Lovers.  Every flower in a valentine flower bouquet is full of symbolic meaning where each flower and each arrangement is a delivery of a special message that’s more felt than understood.

Valentine flowers seem to gift wrap the lovers delicately felt emotions into each fragile petal of each flower  and in each flower bouquet.

Perhaps no other gesture is as loaded with heart felt feelings as flowers sent on a valentine day because when we send flowers and gifts on this special day we infuse the gesture with  unmistakable romance.

Different flowers have their own meaning when reaching out to someone special.  For example, a gift of Angelica flowers on  Valentine means: ’you are my inspiration.’  A gift of Valentine Balsam means: ‘Impatience, or my love can’t wait.’ Sending of red Valentine roses means: ‘I love you passionately.’
Sending a bouquet of tulip flowers on Valentine day is a simple expression of ‘love.’
Sending a gift of flowers that includes blue violets means: ‘I shall remain faithful.’  To send a Valentine flower arrangement that includes a selection of yellow tulips means: ‘I am hopelessly in love.’  A valentine flower bouquet full of white lilies says: ‘your are sweet and you are pure.’

Valentine's Day History

Though the origins of Valentine day’s are shrouded in mystery, most sources agree the word Valentine was the name of a priest who defied the edicts of a roman emperor that outlawed marriages. St.Valentine, as he came to be known, secretly officiated weddings between lovers, since he believed love had greater value than war.

It seemed the roman emperor of the day felt unmarried men made better soldiers than men with wives and families, so he outlawed marriages.

When the emperor discovered Valentine defied his order, he became angry and was determined to have Valentine found and executed.

While in jail, Valentine developed a romantic relationship with the jailers daughter. And so, before his execution, Valentine sent a letter to his beloved which he signed: ‘from your Valentine.’

His last words to his beloved has become the classic message lovers send each other on February 14th to this day.

It’s a bitter irony that Valentine’s day of death, is the same day history chose as an affirmation of life, a celebration for lovers
and their romance.

Over time, lovers added to Valentine’s original message sent in a letter by sending gifts that included flowers, chocolates, candy and other tokens of sentimental value.

However, of all the gifts lovers send to each other, no other gift has a more central role then flowers. And over the years, different flowers have come to express different feelings associated with love.

Yes, White Acacias express ‘friendship, and chaste love,’ but a red rose sends a message ‘ hot passion, or I love you passionately.’

Valentine's Day Flowers and their Subtle Meaning

Each flower adds its own nuance to a romantic gesture, adding ever more shades of meaning to the message we send. Thus, a Lavender Rose flower sends: ‘our love is pure.’ A flower that’s a mere rose bud says: ‘you are young and lovely.’ A pink rose flower is a modest: ‘You are my friend.’

However, sending a Valentine basket of yellow tulip flower arrangements says: ‘I am hopelessly in love with you.’ And still, sending a basket of orange blossom flowers says: ‘Your loveliness equals your purity.’ While a Valentine bouquet or basket of orchid flowers says: ‘you are beautiful; you posses a refined beauty.’

A Valentine celebrated with a flower basket gift full of pansys sends the message: ‘You occupy my thoughts and I have good thoughts of you.’ And if you send a bouquet of Valentine violets in a basket, it means: ‘I shall remain faithful.’ Sending a basket of honeysuckle means: ‘my affection for you is boundless.’

Instead of sending valentine flowers by mail delivery, for a more personal touch you can always deliver the Valentine gift personally your self. A basket full of Honesty flowers delivered personally means exactly as the flowers themselves represent. You are full of openness, candor and honesty.

Honey flowers on the other hand deliver a message of: ‘we have a sweet and secret love.’ Geraniums deliver on Valentine a message of ‘comfort.’ Valentine Daffodils simply deliver: ‘I send my regards,’ while a garden of Daisies say: ‘I share your sentiments.’ Conventional carnation flowers mean ‘pride and beauty,’ while deep red Carnation flowers mean ‘alas, my heart breaks; my heart aches,’ but pink Carnation flowers on Valentine mean ’I will remember you’ and finally the delivery of a basket full of Bridal Roses sends a clear message that ‘ours will be a happy love.’
